Woonsocket, I never planned on running for mayor. Ten years ago, if you had to take a guess, "public servant" would be dead last on my list.
I'm running because i'm tired of watching Woonsocket settle for what I call "The Status Quo" while taxpayers pay more and receive less.
For too long, the same political insiders have made the same promises while our streets became less safe, our downtown lost momentum and residents watched opportunity leave the city.
I'm certainly NOT a career politician. I built my career in the independent contractor space.
In 2008, with just a few thousand dollars ($3,300 to be exact) and nowhere to live, I moved across the country to Los Angeles (a cliche, I know) but for a 25 year old young man that was the best idea I had at the time. I was chasing something greater, I was chasing opportunity. I slept in my car, on couches and took whatever work I could find. I eventually returned home to Rhode Island determined to build something of my own.
Over the past decade, I built a successful real estate business from the ground up. As a licensed Broker/Owner and investor, I have renovated numerous properties, created housing for hardworking people, built businesses and navigated the same permits, taxes, regulations and bureaucracy that frustrate homeowners and small business owners in Woonsocket every day.
After purchasing a distressed, mixed use property on North Main Street sandwiched between a vacant, rat infested restaurant and former motorcycle shop turned "residence" in May of 2023, all I could see in the Woonsocket Theatre District was missed opportunity after missed opportunity.
I learned that Woonsocket is a city filled with history, neighborly people and incredible potential—but also is a city that has accepted problems that should never become normal. Vacant storefronts, drug activity, blight, rising taxes, failing schools and endless excuses from their "leadership."
In 2025, my property tax assessed value arrived in the mail courtesy of "The Status Quo." My taxes not only "increased" but had "skyrocketed" a whopping 134%!
Being well versed the real estate business, naturally I appealed this egregious assault by "The Status Quo", not once, not twice but on my third attempt I was able to be granted a formal tax appeal hearing. This hearing revealed a startling truth to me...The City of Woonsocket's Tax Assessor (and Planning Director for that matter) position was "vacant"! Their sitting Tax Assessor was an intern at best (granted he was a nice guy) but was neither a real estate sales professional nor licensed appraiser. This was the best the City of Woonsocket could do? I questioned...
"Who's in charge here?"
"What else is slipping through the cracks?"
"When did this city begin to decline?"
"Where else are they cutting corners?"
My appeal eventually proved successful and this combined with discovering several needles in my trash bins, on sidewalks and finding a young woman trespassing on my property to smoke crack is why I said to myself, "Instead of complaining Donald, step forward, into the arena."
I believe city hall should work "for" the people—not the other way around.
My priorities are simple:
• Safer streets through stronger public safety.
• Cleaner neighborhoods and renewed pride in every ward.
• Faster permitting and less government red tape.
• Smarter spending with greater accountability for taxpayer dollars.
• Economic growth by supporting small businesses and attracting new investment.
• Leadership that tells the truth, makes decisions and gets results.
By the way, did I mention I'm not yet a "politician"?
I'm not asking for your vote because I have all the answers. I'm asking for your vote because I believe that with my over decade of experience building a network, running a real estate business and taking all the hits (physically, mentally and financially) an entrepreneur can face on a day to day basis, ultimately will benefit this city greatly and is exactly why I believe I am the right candidate to lead Woonsocket out of it's two decades of decline.
I'm asking for your vote because I believe Woonsocket deserves a mayor who will show up every day, listen to residents, make tough decisions and refuse to accept "Well...that's how we've always done it."
This campaign isn't about politics.
It's about proving that STRONGER LEADERSHIP can change the direction of a city.
"The Status Quo" isn't working.
It's time to build a safer, cleaner, stronger Woonsocket—together.
